How do we feel about adidas sambas?
Since early 2022 everyone and their mother have been talking about adidas sambas or suede gazelles, and I mean everyone and their mother since last week my mom and I had a conversation about these shoes in particular, do we like them or do we hate them? are they giving stylish Bella Hadid model off duty, or do they only look good because she's Bella Hadid? am I going to look like I got stuck in time with the 2013 superstars, or like a micro trend hopper and I just wear everything that tik tok micro fashion influencers are claiming to be "chic" are we going to look back in time and think why the fuck were we wearing soccer shoes with low rise baggy jeans an a slick bun? waist down giving dad in the 00s running errands and waist up ballerina. I also recall seeing a photo of Kate Moss wearing light washed baggy jeans and the red suede Gazelles with the 3 white stripes and it caught my eye.
I remember my uncle and cousins wearing the exact same ones in white, beige and black in 2016 (I grew up in a family of soccer players being almost the only girl) and thinking nothing about them, because why would men soccer shoes that have a long ass tongue would be appealing? never in a million years did I thought they were going to gain back popularity.
Well I gave in.. and claimed a pair of "Sambas Classic" for $75 dollars, not too bad, I was going to my aunts house, I was wearing "low rise" Levi's straight leg jeans, slightly baggy, medium wash, a black fitted top, black Zara puffer jacket, and the sambas classic in black, slick pony tail, -The first thing my aunt tells me when she sees me is "You look good... I remember your uncle had those in all colors, I think he still has them" I'm like "yeahh I remember" nothing I go inside, my uncle sees me and says "Why are you wearing soccer shoes?" I'm like "because Bella Hadid wearss themmm", every single time I wear them out with my family for solid 5 minutes they talk about how I'm wearing men's soccer shoes, so ig if you want small talk topic, wear your adidas men's shoes and have someone point them out. Over all I'm not hating, I genuinely like them, I'm not sure if it's the Bella Hadid effect speaking, and years into the future I'm going to think what the hell was I wearing, or am I still going to think I looked good, I don't know I still like my dirty ass 2016 white and black adidas superstar and I still wear them, maybe I just lack fashion sense, but isn't fashion subjective?, either way wear whatever you like, and feel hot in, if you hate them, don't wear them! it's fine, if you love them, get them! just a warning if you're bigger than a size 7 your feet is going to look like a foot long baguette, so you're warned, and if you buy them, buy them bc you actually like them not bc Bella Hadid wears them, she could be wearing galaxy print leggings and everyone (including myself) would still say that she looks HOTTTTT, or do whatever you want, its your money doll.
Do you hate them? or do you love them???? give your opinions, and as all fashion trends we're probably going to hate them in 3 years and gonna come back in style in 10 years.
Wear whatever you feel comfortable and hot in, It's the most important thing about fashion, and don't do it just bc Vogue says.
These aren't the exact pics I was talking about, but Gwyneth Paltrow and Kate Moss rocking those Gazelles in the 90s, consider me influenced.
